Renee Graef

Deborah Ruddell

Renée Graef has illustrated over 70 books for children including the Kirsten series in the American Girls Collection and many of the My First Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  She was also the creative consultant for the Little House program for HarperCollins.

She has illustrated classics such as The Nutcracker and My Favorite Things as well as books on American icons, Mount Rushmore and Paul Bunyan.  One of her personal favorites is B is for Badger: A Wisconsin Alphabet, due to her deep Wisconsin roots.

Presentations are tailored to the audience’s grade level (kindergarten thru 8th grade).  Renée Graef (rhymes with “safe”) will conduct a question and answer period afterwards.  Following the talk, she will draw for the students.  The large illustration is custom made for your school.  This is a great way for the children to remember the event!

Presentations:
Renée offers 3 different powerpoint presentations, consisting of any combination of the following:

  • Picture A Book:  the creative process of illustrating a picture book.
  • Pioneering:  highlighting the Little House books and the issues of the pioneers.

The honorarium is $950 per day for local visits. This includes 2-3 presentations (40-50 minutes each).  A 4th talk can be added for an additional $300.  The day can be shared between neighboring schools.

Local visits include trips to Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Chicago and all points in between.  A small travel expense will be added for trips beyond the 2 hour traveling radius of Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
