Carol’s illustrations have appeared in 50 books for children, as well as in magazines, newspapers and advertising.

Some of the books illustrated by Carol are What If There Were No Sea Otters?, What If There Were No Gray Wolves?, What If There Were No Bees? and What If There Were No Lemmings?, all by Suzanne Slade; Fireflies by Megan E. Bryant, Emperor Penguins and Best Friends The True Story of Owen and Mzee both by Roberta Edwards; Wild Fibonacci and Sea Squares both by Joy Hulme; Over in the Rainforest, Over in the Arctic, Whales and Dolphins, Starfish Stars of the Sea, Octopus Under the Sea all by Connie and Peter Roop; Freckles and the Great Beach Rescue by Ellen Bryant Lloyd; Endangered Animals by Faith McNulty; What the Dinosaurs Saw by Mariam Schlein; Thinking about Ants by Barbara Brenner; Where’s That Reptile, Where’s That Fish, Where’s That Cat, Where’s That Insect, Where’s That Bat and Where’s That Spider, all by Barbara Brenner and Bernice Chardiet.

Carol’s picture books have been recognized as Outstanding Science Trade books by NSTA and CBC and selected as a Children’s Choice Award and Aesop Accolade List.  Her work is included in the Society of Illustrators permanent collection of Outstanding Female Illustrators of the Past One Hundred Years.

Carol enjoys speaking to students about her work and has visited hundreds of elementary schools. She also has made presentations at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Frostburg State University, Kansas City Art Institute, Corcoran School of Art and Design, Cincinnati Art Museum and Ohio SCBWI annual conference.

During a 45-60 minute presentation, Carol shows many pieces of original artwork and explains the steps involved in the production of a book from manuscript to printed book. She likes to emphasize the importance of research in creating an illustration. Carol ends her talk with an on-the-spot drawing. For large groups she can present a PowerPoint presentation.
